The All Saudi Dream

Now we have all heard of the term or rather the expression "all American dream". This notion takes it roots from the Declaration of Independence promoting that all men are equal and have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. (one could also say property, but that is a philosophy discussion for another day). Over time this catch phrase has become a sort of ethos of the US. Of course over time it use has expanded and these days no only is it used to talk about equality amongst men but the whole great paying job, white picket fence, dream house etc .... basically a kind of lifestyle. That got me thinking of something i like to call  "the Saudi dream".

Setting aside the whole equality aspect aside fro now (cuz lets face it, it aint gonna happen), i speak in terms of lifestyle. The main activity for most females here is shopping and dinning out at all times of the day. I mean the number of malls, restaurants coffee shops and gyms available isnt even funny anyone. you name it we got it. Nowhere else in the world but the Middle East do people have the time and money to do this if you think about it!
Not only that but then there's the whole transportation issue. Now I call it an issue per se because when I lived in Manchester I would constantly told that Im oppressed as I cant drive in Saudi Arabia. Personally I think its a rather pointless rule to impose but i would always look these geniuses in the eye and say "why would I wanna drive when I can hire a driver to take me place! Now who is the oppressed??" one!!" But I'll be honest with you, it can get rather tiresome to depend on someone to go place but its better than nothing i guess.
Ive got a decent enough job as a language instructor. They pay aint bad, got a fair amount of my salary saved despite my sometimes lavish expenses :p. I work afternoons and evenings so I get to sleep in till whenever I feel like. I live in a nice comfy 3 bedroom apartment and have hired help to do the housework. I would say I got it much better than most people in the world. That for me is living the Saudi dream/lifestyle despite all my frustrations and complaints. ;)
